His name is Sid Miller and he is the new Texas Agricultural Commissioner. School children throughout the state are saying thankful prayers this week as Miller announced that a ban on deep fryers in public schools is over. He is also bringing back soda to school vending machines. The Republican says government mandates have failed to make kids healthier in Texas, where roughly two-thirds of residents are considered overweight or obese.Of course, Miller has strong opposition to his recent actions.
Experts . . . say federal limits on calories and fat in school meals make it unlikely that Texas schools will resume deep-frying.Whether or not fries will once again grace the lunchroom tables in public schools is not really the point according to Miller:
"We're all about what our country was founded on — we're about giving our school districts freedom, liberty and individual responsibility."
