Did you hear the story about California’s Governor Moonbeam using state resources for his benefit? In this case, it was about “the potential for future oil and gas activity” on Jerry Brown’s family land in the northern part of the state.

The Associated Press got the goods by examining state records and asking questions. Of course you didn’t hear about this story because it never “went national” (with the possible exception of Fox News).

Now imagine what would happen if the identical story popped up about Georgia’s governor, Nathan Deal. It would have made the evening news on all three over-the-air networks. Cable TV pundits would have used it as a chew toy for days on end. There would be calls for his resignation. (Do not consider this an endorsement of Georgia’s Republican governor, of whom this orange cat has always been suspicious. The point is about the media.)

Back in California, the AP reports: “After a phone call from the governor and follow-up requests from his aides, senior staffers in the state’s oil and gas regulatory agency … produced a 51-page historical report and geological assessment, plus a personalized satellite-imaged geological and oil and gas drilling map for the area around Brown’s family ranch land near the town of Williams.”

The bad news for Jerry is that the gas and oil potential of the 2,700 acres has been judged very low. So there’s no big money to be made. And there’s no scandal because he’s a Democrat, and the national media just don’t let them get mixed up in such things.
