It is refreshing to see the old "Gun Free School Zone" signs come down and a public school system use commonsense tactics to ensure it is not seen as a soft target by those seeking to inflict harm and mass casualties on the most innocent in the community.

Under the policy approved in August for Okay, employees who wish to carry firearms must receive training and Board of Education approval.

The principal of Okay High School, Mark Hayes, reportedly pushed for the new gun policy. "There have been numerous shootings in the country, and we want to keep our students safe," he told the Phoenix. "These are our kids."

Lib rags, like Huffpost Politics, have already weighed in after reporting the facts:

But what if an angry or upset student gets hold of a teacher's firearm? What if a gun is lost on school grounds? What if a teacher accidentally discharges the weapon? 

The online publication also cites the NY Times citing Andrew Rosenthal logic:

About the only thing more terrifying than a lone gunman firing into a classroom or a crowded movie theater is a half a dozen more gunmen leaping around firing their pistols at the killer, which is to say really at each other and every bystander. It's a police officer's nightmare.

Many don't agree with this perspective, thinking that there is nothing more terrifying than a stranger opening fire on innocent people, whether it be at a school, church, mall, or sporting event. Gun-free zones have done nothing but let would-be perpetrators know where best to carry out evil. Knowing a good guy with a gun will be armed and ready to thwart an attempt to cause mass casualties will be a more effective deterrent.

Last week if someone were to ask you what do former nanny-state Mayor Michael Bloomberg and the Koch Brothers have in common, the reply would more than likely be a blank stare as you reached into the mind's depths to find meaningful semblance other than both are extremely wealthy. Today, you would quickly be able to say "They both are on Al Qaeda's hit list." 

The recently published hit list is featured in the propaganda-filled Inspire magazine, an English language online publication supposedly operated by the al-Qaeda organization. According to Fox News Insider, 

Notorious Al Qaeda magazine "Inspire" is encouraging "assassination operations" targeting America's wealthiest businessmen, including Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, the Koch brothers, Sam Walton, Michael Bloomberg and Ben Bernanke.

Jennifer Griffin told Shepard Smith this afternoon that the stated goal of the attacks is to derail the "revival of the American economy."

Griffin reported that the article says the "wealthy entrepreneurs" can get off the list by withdrawing their money from U.S. banks, investing their wealth outside American soil and denouncing support for Israel.

So along with blathering on about the evils of climate change and using his anti-gun group Everytown to advocate for tougher gun laws that the mentally ill and criminals will never follow, Bloomberg should be thinking about self preservation and increasing his armed security.  If he thinks a tweet or a heavily funded "anti" terrorism campaign will deter al Qaeda, he's sadly mistaken. The only defense against evil is a strong and well-armed offense.

Thank goodness Michael Moore has chimed in with his two cents on how to solve the problems Baltimore citizens face! When you vote for big government, that's exactly what you are going to get.

Fling open those jail cells and let em all loose!

My Employer Advises Flee or Hide in an Active Shooter Situation

Last week I received an email from my employer with the subject line "Emergency Planning: Active Shooter Response Training."  I'll admit the subject matter grabbed my attention, and I was curious to see the advice offered.  The email claimed:

In recent years, reports of workplace violence and mass shootings have dominated the news, leaving many looking for answers. In response, we’ve identified several training resources developed by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for use in increasing awareness, enhancing preparedness and responding to active shooter and workplace violence scenarios.

Since 2002 I have worked as an online instructor for The Apollo Education Group which has allowed me to work from home, taking contracts and teaching courses for The University of Phoenix to facilitate adult educational needs. I do not report to a traditional UOP campus so I knew the advice the email offered didn't apply to me; nevertheless, I was curious to know what steps the company was taking to ensure the safety of employees and students on campus.

Included in the email was a link taking me to a message from Apollo's VP & Chief Ethics Compliance Officer, who basically offered a two-step action plan in the event of an active shooter situation: 1) flee or 2) hide. The video message also included a simulated action plan created by the Department of Homeland Security. 

Curiously, one piece of advice portrayed in the video was missing from Apollo's training instructions: fight back if directly confronted with a shooter. Red flags immediately began flying and I wondered what was the company's on-campus gun policy.

Like most college campuses nowadays, the policy promotes a gun-free zone which is potentially dangerous. Criminals and mentally disturbed people hell bent on causing mass casualties do not follow the law. Why would they follow a college campus policy? And why would an institution like The University of Phoenix be broadcasting that its campuses are gun-free zones? 

It would be nice, for once, if a large corporation acknowledged that the only true action plan against a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. Banning weapons and restricting Second Amendment rights will never effectively reduce the potential of an active shooter situation.
