Facebook Page Pokes Hornet's Nest After #CharlestonShooting

In the wake of the Charleston shooting of nine innocent churchgoers last night, today a Facebook page appeared, shortly after the shooter was identified and caught. A community page, "Justice for Dylann Roof" depicts the scales of justice along with the profile picture which Roof used on his own Facebook page. The About page simply states:

Let's not try him in the court of public opinion. Innocent until proven guilty in a court of law!

Whoever was insensitive enough to create this social media account must have known what the possible response would be. Hundreds chimed in with a fury.  Proving that this FB page was meant to poke a hornet's nest, the creator next posted:

This had the predictable effect of provoking tons more responses filled with outrage, threats, and a Change.org "Remove 'Justice for Dylann Roof' Community Page." 

We, the undersigned, hereby petition Facebook to remove the "Justice For Dylann Roof" community page. Dylann Roof is suspected of killing nine people in a Bible-study group at a historic African-American church in Charleston, South Carolina. This page supports hate crimes and needs removed immediately!

The page's creator, proving this community page is nothing more than an attention-seeking stunt, poked the nest some more:

I'm not one for censorship, but in this case, I would agree . . . this Facebook page needs to go!

The gun control mantra has already begun. But a gun didn't kill nine people in Charleston last night - an evil person, filled with hated and intolerance did. The gun was the means by which he committed this heinous act. 

Dr. Ben Carson has just weighed in on the Charleston shooting and his words help get to the root of this evil - intolerance:

Last night evil walked the streets of Charleston. My heart aches for the families of the victims. I pray for the families left behind. I pray for the community scared and hurting. I also pray you and I can conquer hatred.

In my lifetime I have seen such great progress. Though racial based hate is still very much alive as last night so violently reminded us.

But I worry about a new hate that is growing in our great nation. I fear our intolerance of one another is the new battle ground of evil. Today many feel it is ok to hate someone who thinks differently than you do.

The left hates the right. The right hates the left. This attitude is poison. Poison that will sicken all of us.

Just because someone is for Obamacare and another is against doesn't change the fact we are all brothers and sisters. All Americans.

As a brain surgeon I can assure you that all of our brains look the same, no matter what our skin color or party affiliation.

The America I know and love has fought evil all over the world to protect evil's victims. At home we must dedicate ourselves to not hating anyone based on their politics.

Our leaders have walked our country down this path and it is up to us to change course.

Please join me in praying for those who lost their lives last night. Please join me in praying for comfort for their families. Please join me in praying for our great nation, that we may heal ourselves before it is too late.

The Argument that #CharlestonShooting Was Hate Crime

The horrific shooting that took place last night at Mother Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, SC has gripped the nation. News is breaking quickly, but the best update to this tragedy is that they got him. The shooter, Dylann Storm Roof, has been captured in Shelby, NC.

Based on witness statements, contrary to what friends may be saying, all evidence points to the sad reality that this is a hate crime of epic proportions. The MSM keeps questioning his mental health, and, honestly, what sane person would do something like this, but Roof's mental state should have little bearing. Evil exists and has no decency when it reaches its tentacles into the heart of mankind.

Roof allegedly allowed one victim to live and be witness to his killing rampage.  According to Raw Story, the survivor claims Roof sat through the Bible study then opened fire at the conclusion of the meeting. 

The lawmaker’s cousin said the shooter came into the church and sat next to Pinckney through the service and started shooting when it concluded.

A survivor told reporters that the gunman reloaded five times during the massacre and ignored the pleas of one man to reconsider killing the worshipers.

“You rape our women and you’re taking over our country — and you have to go,” the terrorist said, according to a survivor.

Once the shooter was identified, Facebook provided other key evidence. Roof's profile picture makes a huge statement. Why is a 21-year-old wearing a jacket with two decals symbolizing apartheid? These flags faded away into the dark bowels of history way before he was born. 

Bloomberg Politics explains the significance of these flags which offers great insight as to the motive for such a horrific crime.

The top flag was used by South Africa from 1928 to 1994, until the coming of black suffrage and the adoption of the country's current "rainbow" flag. The bottom flag was used by Rhodesia -- now Zimbabwe -- from 1968 to 1979. They have one thing in common: They were the symbols of white minority regimes that oppressed their majority black populations. Both of the flags would have been relatively obscure, in a way that a Swastika flag or even a Confederate battle flag are not. As the Southern Poverty Law Center has noted, white supremacists like to argue that Zimbabwe and South Africa under majority-black rule represent cautionary tales for what could happen to a nation that allows non-whites to take over. To them, Zimbabwe's economic decline under Robert Mugabe says everything about what happens when black people are allowed to rule; to them, against all evidence, South Africa is always one disaster away from a war on whites.

I have been glued to Twitter and trying to absorb the tragedy taking place tonight in my home state of South Carolina. Nine people are dead tonight having lost their lives when a white male in his 20's opened fire at a Bible study in Charleston's Mother Emanual A.M.E.Church on Calhoun St. The police chief and mayor have called the shooting a hate crime and are asking for prayers and any tips on the perpetrator of this evil.

Newscasters and officials are being cautious with releasing information on victims, but many are tweeting that State Senator and Pastor of Mother Emanual A.M.E. Church Reverend Clementa Pinckney was killed in the attack.
