Liberal progressives: America's greatest gun salesmen

By Rob Janicki
Newly released August records show that the FBI posted 1.7 million background checks required of gun purchasers at federally licensed dealers, the highest number recorded in any August since gun checks began in 1998. The numbers follow new monthly highs for June (1.5 million) and July (1.6 million), a period which spans a series of deadly gun attacks — from Charleston to Roanoke — and proposals for additional firearm legislation.

While the FBI does not track actual gun sales, as multiple firearms can be included in a transaction by a single buyer, the National Instant Criminal Background Check System's numbers are an indicator of a market upswing in the face of growing anxiety about access to guns.

Every time there is a shooting in America, it can be expected that there will be a hew and a cry by liberals for greater gun control.  There are several problems with the liberals regurgitating this mantra.

First, virtually none of the gun related crimes in the greater news reporting by liberal rags have anything to do with the illegal acquisition of guns.  The guns used in these horrendous crimes were either legally obtained by the user or were obtained from a family member legally possessing the firearm/s used in a criminal manner by a family member.

How will additional gun laws prevent a lawful gun purchaser from going around the bend into an illegal activity?  The answer is that no one can predict if or when someone will use a lawfully obtained firearm for a criminal purpose.  Thus, there is no law that can be enacted that can foretell the future criminal use of any firearm.

We hear so much about eliminating gun show loopholes for gun sales, as if these dubious sales were going on in some wholesale manner.  That's just not the case.  In California, gun show sales are monitored by law enforcement and sellers must abide by the very same laws that a brick and mortar licensed firearms seller must abide by.  Failure by sellers to abide by the gun sales rules usually results in the loss of their federal firearms license (FFL) to sell firearms or, at the very least, a very hefty fine.

Buyers must pass a background check through the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) utilizing the National Instant Criminal Background Check System NICBCS).  If there is a failure in this system, its that information input to the system may not always be done in a timely manner or some agencies simply may not report what is required of them.  That's not a gun seller or buyer issue.

The result of every egregious gun related crime is a liberal progressive call for more gun control or outright bans on gun purchases, which causes consumers to fear for their right to purchase a gun and results in greater gun sales.  The irony of this cannot be missed by even the densest of liberals.
