No one really thinks anyone, including self avowed socialist Bernie Sanders, will beat Hillary as the presidential nominee for the Democratic Party in 2016. She's been the presumptive Democratic nominee since what seems like forever. So why should Hillary even worry about Bernie Sanders, a registered Independent in his home state of Vermont? As an aside, it is yet to be determined if Sanders can even run in his home state, since Vermont state law mandates that a person may only run in a party primary in which he is a registered member of that party. Such a stumbling block event, should it occur, would definitely be a hinderance to Sanders.
That said, Bernie Sanders is not doing Hillary any favors as he continues to narrow the polling margin with Hillary in each succeeding polling data set. It all points to a growing enthusiasm gap deficit for Hillary and that can never be a good thing for a politician. Sanders is 73 and shows a lot more enthusiasm and energy than 67 year old Hillary. This energy gap raises the question of whether Hillary has "dried out" enough to wage both a long primary campaign contest and the campaign as the Democrat's presidential standard bearer.
Sanders can only hurt Hillary as he stumps in the heartland with everyday ordinary people in crowds that make Hillary's infrequent appearances look like she's in a witness protection program.
I'm certain that Hillary plans on ramping up her campaign with the traditional meet and greet and mammoth crowd roaring enthusiastic events one of these days, weeks or months. There just doesn't seem to be any idea when that may occur. In the meantime, Sanders seems to be staking out territory on a lot of populist issues that resonate with voters, while Hillary has small tete a tete encounters with a few people here and a few people there.
It's hard to imagine how Hillary might be taking the pulse of Americans, when she has encountered so few Americans that will be necessary to elect her as the Democratic Party's presidential nominee, not to mention the presidential election on November 8, 2016.
I haven't even addressed the thrust of Hillary's campaign centerpiece as the the "Champion of the people", when she was making $250, 000 dollars and up for speeches before various campaign contributors and donors representing foreign nations. The Clinton wealth is now estimated to be well over $100 million dollars.
The point of this is to illustrate how fragile Hillary's campaign centerpiece really is compared to Bernie Sanders, who may have the first nickel he ever earned. Hillary's Scooby Do tour just reeks of insincerity from someone claiming to be the "Champion of the people".
