Indiana Governor Mike Pence has been in the hot seat lately. Would he or wouldn't he endorse a Republican primary candidate?
Would he stay silent, betting on the notion that being lukewarm in such a volatile primary would better his own chances for reelection or a presidential bid of his own in 2020? Would he capitulate principle and try to give Trump the huge boost he would need toward securing the majority of delegates needed to win on the first ballot at the GOP convention? Would he paint with bold colors and stand behind the candidate who is the true Constitutional conservative?
Today Pence answered these questions. He endorsed Ted Cruz and confirmed that he will be voting for a Cruz/Fiorina ticket in the May 3rd primary:
"I'm not against anybody, but I will be voting for Ted Cruz in the Republican primary," Pence said in an interview with WIBC's Greg Garrison. He praised Cruz's "knowledge of the Constitution" and his willingness to "take on the leadership" of his own party.Pence expects to campaign with Cruz and is in discussions with the Texas senator's aides about scheduling, he told CNN after the radio interview.
Thank you Governor @mike_pence for your support!#ChooseCruz: https://t.co/uyE3WEApzohttps://t.co/0nxgMz0Rrk— Ted Cruz (@tedcruz) April 29, 2016
