Trump and the Little-Hand Syndrome

by Kim D.

It was quite obvious to honest observers that Donald Trump was more concerned about the perception voters may have of his hands and other body parts than the long list of negatives that have surfaced since the last GOP debate.  He took the opportunity to make nice with Rubio and apologize for calling him a lightweight on Twitter which he segued into saying he didn't understand the "hit" on his hands which he claimed no one had done before. (Note: this is another falsehood as it is a 25-year-old jab at Trump).

Vanity Fair recently did a pictorial analysis of Trump's hands (click here to view) and makes the claim that the hits on Trump's tiny hands go way back:

Ever since Spy magazine first labeled Donald Trump a “short-fingered vulgarian” in the 1980s, the licensing maven and presidential candidate has been pushing back, insisting with trademark bravado that his fingers are, in fact, “not so short." He has even claimed, though never in the presence of rulers, yardsticks, or tape measures, that “my fingers are long and beautiful, as, has been well-documented, are various other parts of my body.”
People Magazine also investigated and revealed that Donald Trump has been sending Vanity Fair pictures of his hands for 25 years:
The bizarre, decades-long feud between the journalist and the billionaire presidential candidate began when Carter wrote an essay for Spy magazine calling Trump a "short-fingered vulgarian," Carter wrote in this month's editor's letter.

"The most recent offering arrived earlier this year, before his decision to go after the Republican presidential nomination," Carter said in the piece titled "Why Donald Trump Will Always Be a 'Short-Fingered Vulgarian.' "
"Like the other packages, this one included a circled hand and the words, also written in gold Sharpie: 'See, not so short!' I sent the picture back by return mail with a note attached, saying, 'Actually, quite short.' "
The long and short of it (pun intended), the subject of Trump's hands and diminutive fingers is a bizarre one to raise at a presidential debate. This political season many claim Trump has rewritten the rules and changed politics forever. I don't know if that's quite true; however, what is clear is that Trump has taken GOP politics to a new low and he has given Hillary everything she needs to mount a strong argument that a vote for her is a saner choice for America.
