By now most people are familiar with the videos released by the
Center for Medical Progress, exposing Planned Parenthood’s “Limbs for Lambos” practices.
Alright, that may not have been the official
name of the program, but seems pretty fitting considering what was revealed.
The nationwide debate that ensued put PP on the defensive.
They insist the videos are deceptive, their practices are legal, and the taxpayer
funding of PP is essential to the survival of American women. Pro-life
advocates were framed as “anti-abortion activists” who wish to limit the rights
and health options of women. In other words, conservatives are out to get those
of us afflicted with the female condition. But what else is new?
Today PP’s president, Cecile Richards, outlined a policy
change that will no longer include accepting payment for aborted fetal tissue donated
for research. She assured the faithful that the programs and their
abominable practices will continue, but profits will no longer line the pockets
of PP’s higher ups.
Well then, that should just clear it all up then, right?
Not so fast. They may no longer receive payments for harvesting, but they ARE
still receiving taxpayer funding to the tune of $550 million. How much of these
fungible funds will help offset the costs associated with the procedures?
Most conservatives, and arguably anyone with a moral
compass, object to the dissection of babies, not just the profit made off their
teeny, tiny human body parts. Richards hopes the policy change will quiet the shouts
to defund Planned Parenthood. Unfortunately, she simply misses the point.
