Samsung Takes a Backhanded Shot at Mothers in their Mother’s Day #TextsFromMom Ad

Hopefully you haven’t forgotten your mother or the fact that today is Mother’s Day and is in over 80 countries including Canada, Germany, Australia, Denmark, Greece, India, Italy, New Zealand, and Switzerland. To mark the Hallmark occasion Samsung released a new ad, which if we take a closer look, actually pokes fun at mothers in a backhanded kind of way.  It also reminds us that Moms have a way with words – especially when
we text them, and hopefully not when the phone auto corrects them for us.

The #TextsFromMom ad, featuring the Galaxy S6 Edge, showing a series of lighthearted situations where Mom texts the wrong thing on a phone obviously far more advanced than she is. Some of the classic messages from Mom include texts WRITTEN IN ALL CAPITALS, hashtaging her son, "rewinding" texts, confusing a Selfie with a normal photo.

The comedic reply to the ALL CAPITALS message is of course when the child responded, “Why are you shouting?” To which Mom replies, “I’M NOT, CAN YOU HEAR ME???” The funniest one is her confusing the emoticons. "Wanna get ice cream" and using the crap emoticon instead of the ice cream.

The ad was meant to show us a lighter side of mom but really comes off as poking fun at mom, when today is the day that we should all be laughing with our moms, not laughing at them; especially when we all make mistakes on these not so smart phones.
