Last week was Spring Break for my kiddo. Unfortunately, business is bleak for those in the oil and gas industry which means we weren't taking that expensive trip to Disney World, going to see the Grand Canyon, or hopping aboard a ship to cruise our cares away like others in my son's kindergarten class were doing. No, we drove to Dallas to visit my brother and his family and visit the Lego Discovery Center which, for my son, was the highlight of the entire trip. Needless to say, Twitter and the news, in general, were turned off so I could focus on family.
This political season has been utter madness. It's okay to turn off the hype; in fact, it may be necessary for many of us who are not part of the paid media. For regular folks on the right, temporarily shutting off the 24/7 "lying Ted," "let's punch a protester Trump," and "doesn't have a China man's chance in hell Kasich" may be a healthy choice, like ordering the veggie burger instead of the greasier version with cheese.
I know I feel better this Monday - less angry. However, catching up on what I've missed after taking a break is always a treacherous task. So instead of going back and reading last week's tweet and DM activity, I jumped on my general timeline and saw a rant that describes pretty much how I felt before taking a break.
The account is AgainstTrumpDude and those who have been angered and depressed by the blind support of the Republican front runner can relate:
I just want to let people know that I am taking a hiatus from tweeting and from politics for a while. Maybe a long while. 1/— AgainstTrumpDude (@TheAmishDude) March 21, 2016
Frankly, the Trump Madness has me dismayed, in particular that people refuse to realize the consequences of a Trump nomination. 2/— AgainstTrumpDude (@TheAmishDude) March 21, 2016
First, he is a man of wretchedly low character. I know that people often see crudeness as a signal of the working class. 3/— AgainstTrumpDude (@TheAmishDude) March 21, 2016
But Judeo-Christian mores have tempered this somewhat so that anti-elitism doesn’t get badly conflated with loutishness. 4/— AgainstTrumpDude (@TheAmishDude) March 21, 2016
Second, he’s liberal. Dyed-in-the-wool, Planned Parenthood-loving Lefty. If not for immigration rhetoric, he’d be left of Hillary. 5/— AgainstTrumpDude (@TheAmishDude) March 21, 2016
Third, he’s going to lose. Badly. Really badly. So badly, I expect him to stop campaigning in September because he’s bored. 6/— AgainstTrumpDude (@TheAmishDude) March 21, 2016
When politicians insult you, you never forget. And those on the Trump Train don’t see the middle fingers pointed at them. 7/— AgainstTrumpDude (@TheAmishDude) March 21, 2016
Anyone who touches Trump is going to be poisoned. His stink will be on good Republicans forever. He’s purposefully offensive. 11/— AgainstTrumpDude (@TheAmishDude) March 21, 2016
Trump uses vicious anti-immigration rhetoric but supports liberal immigration policies. That’s why I call Trump supporters stupid. 13/— AgainstTrumpDude (@TheAmishDude) March 21, 2016
Fifth, nominating Trump to “teach the GOP a lesson” is like using the Devil to punish heretics. 14/— AgainstTrumpDude (@TheAmishDude) March 21, 2016
We had Buchanan and Perot. See the pattern? Celebrity non-politicians who end up poisoning the very issue they claim to support. 16/— AgainstTrumpDude (@TheAmishDude) March 21, 2016
Thanks Limbaugh, Levin and others for their cynical gamesmanship. And Fuck You Ingraham and Coulter for your vile nativism. 21/— AgainstTrumpDude (@TheAmishDude) March 21, 2016
The tribal politics of Obama is the wrong way to go. I’ve been to Europe. It sucks. We had the easiest election this year. Gone. 22/— AgainstTrumpDude (@TheAmishDude) March 21, 2016
The ideas of the founding are miraculous. And to throw them away on a lousy TV celebrity in a pique? Madness. 23/— AgainstTrumpDude (@TheAmishDude) March 21, 2016
If Cruz can pull this off, great. But even if he can, Trumpism will be all over the party. Too many people are emotionally invested. 24/— AgainstTrumpDude (@TheAmishDude) March 21, 2016
Trumpism is the consequence of our fatherless celebrity-driven culture. They want a daddy, one they never knew or one who left them. 25/— AgainstTrumpDude (@TheAmishDude) March 21, 2016
People are in for a very rude awakening when they find out that they can bully the party to get a plurality and nobody plays ball. 26/— AgainstTrumpDude (@TheAmishDude) March 21, 2016
I don’t know how Trump will eventually go out. Will he quit? Will he Scooby Doo us and say he was for Hillary all along? 33/— AgainstTrumpDude (@TheAmishDude) March 21, 2016
He almost never criticizes Hillary, you know. Just like he actually praises Planned Parenthood. Geniuses you all are. 34/— AgainstTrumpDude (@TheAmishDude) March 21, 2016
I feel your pain dude (insert sad smiley with teardrop).#NeverTrump. And I mean it. 39/39— AgainstTrumpDude (@TheAmishDude) March 21, 2016
