The irony of it all. Chicago, with the strictest and most prohibitive gun control laws in America, is now confronted with a truth that they will have great difficulty in explaining away. A legally armed man with a concealed carry permit stepped into a shooting scene that could have been disastrous for untold numbers of innocent bystanders, and put the shooter down before he could kill or wound anyone.
From AWR Hawkins at Breitbart comes this feel good news.
On Friday, an Uber driver with a concealed carry permit thwarted an attempted mass shooting by pulling his own weapon and shooting a gunman who had opened fire in Chicago’s Logan Square.
Illinois Assistant State’s Attorney Barry Quinn verified that the driver “had a concealed-carry permit and acted in the defense of himself and others.”
According to the Chicago Tribune, the driver was watching “a group of people” walk in front of his car on North Milwaukee Avenue just before midnight when 22-year-old Everardo Custodio allegedly “began firing into the crowd.” The Uber driver pulled his own gun and “fired six shots at Custodio,” wounding him in “the shin, thigh, and lower back.”
The attempted mass shooting ended with no one other Custodio injured.
Imagine if more Chicagoans were issued CCW permits to legally carry concealed weapons. Cops are seldom around while a crime is in progress, whereas a legally armed citizenry is more apt to be able to respond to such incidents as described above with a Uber driver legally permitted to carry a concealed weapon.
When criminals don't know who is armed, they tend to be wary of where they commit their crimes. Trite as liberals might say this is, an armed society is a polite society. Liberals think that enacting gun control laws will make for a safer society, when all it does is punish law-abiding individuals, puts their lives at risk and gives free rein to criminals to do their dastardly deeds without fear of retaliation. That is a contributing factor in why we see horrendous mass shooting murders done in "gun free zones". Criminals fear no immediate retaliation in the commission of their crimes in "gun free zones".
It should be interesting to see how Chicago's bully Mayor, Rahm Emanuel, recently re-elected, and the ethically challenged Superintendent of Police, Garry F. McCarthy, former director of the Newark, New Jersey, Police Department, and a poor excuse for a law enforcement officer in my opinion, will address this legal shooting that stopped a potential mass murder scene.
