25 years ago, Saved By The Bell aired the famous episode dealing with drug addiction. It was groundbreaking for a sitcom and even more so for a teen show. Jessie Spano was addicted to caffeine pills. Caffeine pills. Not exactly a worry of most parents nowadays, but still an unprecedented topic for NBC to tackle. The show went on to cover more "tough" topics for teens, but none are so seared in our memories as the singing Jessie breaking down in tears in Zac's arms.
It's okay, Jessie, you were on the cutting edge of teenage caffeine addiction. You had no idea Starbucks would make it not only acceptable, but trendy. I mean, who are you without a car selfie holding your Grande Iced, Sugar-Free Vanilla Latte with Soy Milk? Nobody, I assure you.
