Who is shocked that Venezuela's dictator thinks old Bernie is the cat's meow? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Hmmm . . . I wonder what Bernie thinks about his recent endorsement?
During a television broadcast on Tuesday night, Maduro -- who has expressed support for Sanders, a self-described democratic socialist, in the past -- called the Democratic candidate "our revolutionary friend" and said it was only "an archaic (electoral) system that is 200 years old" keeping him from the presidency.Secretly, I bet Bernie loves the praise from his comrade and former bus driver. However, I think he would argue his special kind of Democratic Socialism would be different than the soul-sucking disaster that is day-to-day misery in Venezuela. This form of socialism is dangerously tipping toward economic armageddon.
I PLAYED MONOPOLY ONCE AS A CHILD—THAT IS WHY I AM THIS— Bernie Thoughts (@berniethoughts) May 22, 2016
Only in 2016 with no hope for effective government change entering the White House following Obama's eight years of dismal and divisive policies could Democratic Socialism be a considered vision for America. What most of us thought laughable and impossible for the direction of this country actually has a chance down the road.
Bernie may never enter the Oval Office; however, the work he has done to promote socialism will be viewed by the history books as significant. And if our education system continues to paint equality ideals with a Utopian paintbrush, in 2020 a celebrity willing to sign on to further promote "the cause" could be successful in bringing these ideals to the highest office in our land.
Anyone doubt it? Take a gander at this nifty piece from Dan Joseph:
