Does Baby CEO's Black Life Matter?

by Kim D.

Searching for rap star fame and fortune as Baby CEO, Jonathan is a 14-year-old boy from Memphis who smokes weed and totes guns. He likens himself to Lil Yummy, Robert Sandifer, a Chicago gangster gunned down at the tender age of 11 and featured in 1994 on the cover of Time.

Jonathan's latest video, "Fck Da Opps," is beginning to go viral and is causing some concern. Something seems kind of off when a minor is raping crude lyrics and pointing guns which are leading many to wonder who are his parents and do they approve of his exploitation? Others are claiming that the "thug life" is the only one the young rapper knows:
BabyCEO comes from a troubled background. His brother was murdered and his sister Desunda Brown is serving time in prison. Brown has a lengthy rap sheet that includes charges of aggravated robbery, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated burglary and possession of a firearm, to name a few.

Perhaps this is all just an illusion and Jonathan will escape the fate of Lil Yummy and other gangsta rappers. All anyone can hope is that his young, black life will ultimately matter more than any fortune and fame he and those who are exploiting his background and immaturity will receive.
